Schools and Visits – Week Commencing 1st February 2016

A lovely start to February, this week with the Open Centre working with seven different schools, from across Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

The week began with Hady Primary School hiring our Mobile Exhibition as part of their faith week.

Meanwhile back at the Open Centre, Riverview Primary School from Burton, came for their first out of three visits to see the Mosque, Hindu Temple and Sikh Gurdwara.

That afternoon, Newton’s Walk Pupil Referral Unit came to see and sample the delights of the Sikh Gurdwara.

Bilal Hussain – Teacher Commented

“Every element of the service provided by the Open Centre for our school’s faith trail to the Sikh Gurdwara was fantastic.  The talk itself was thorough, clear and informative. The host was excellent and through the interactive elements of the talk she was able to maintain the attention of the children for a prolonged length of time, something which is not easy due to the potentially high level and unpredictable nature of the children.  In summary, all of the staff and pupil’s of Newton’s Walk PRU immensely benefited and enjoyed their time at the Gurdwara. We would certainly recommend using the Open Centre to others as the faith trail from start to finish was excellent. We will be booking again very soon.”

Woodville Junior School also brought their year 4 children over two days to see the Sikh Gurdwara and tasted some of their delicious Langar food.

All Saints Junior School from Alrewas, visited three places of worship and took part in a Marriage workshop in the afternoon. They had such a good time they have booked in already for the same visit next year to ensure they don’t miss out.

At the end of the week Wigley Primary School, who had not visited us for the last four years, returned to see the Hindu Temple, Sikh Gurdwara and take part in a Marriage Workshop. The headteacher was so impressed with how much the Open Centre has improved since her previous visit, which she feels is down to the “organisation” , “approachability of staff” and “interactive” elements she is going to bring her other Primary School soon.

Finally Newhall Infant and Nursery School had an assembly on Haj and three mini Haj workshops with their infant children.
