Joanne Rogers, Horsley Woodhouse Primary commented

‘The children got a lot out of this session and loved the story telling. The children particularly enjoyed seeing the traditional clothing. Our older children also got a lot out of their workshops.  The pace of the sessions and engaging hands-on opportunities to taste food and try on traditional clothing worked very well and meant the children were always involved and busy.  There were lots of opportunities for the children to talk and ask questions to enhance their understanding and learning.  The children were excited and enjoyed the whole day’.

Clare Kenway, The Ripley Academy commented

‘We loved the addition of the clothing/food part.  We haven’t experienced this before’.

Amy Cox, Waingroves Primary commented

‘A very interactive fun and informative workshop! Thank you {smiley face}. A great range of activities the children could engage with’.

Miss Boulton, Sir Graham Balfour commented

‘A brilliant experience. MY GCSE students saw the lived reality of their textbook knowledge.  I would recommend to any high school teacher who is teaching Islam’.

‘The children were engaged and were encouraged to ask questions. The children particularly enjoyed exploring artefacts, tasting and dressing up.  It was a fantastic opportunity and experience for the children to learn about Judaism. We will certainly be booking visits and experience workshops in the future.  It has been great to liaise with the Open Centre and I would like to thank you for sharing ideas for learning opportunities’.

‘Excellent- Great use of artefacts to demonstrate the 5Ks and we all enjoyed the demonstration with the Gatka.  It was wonderful to eat at the Langar Hall as we had talked about this in our lessons and the children were so taken back with the idea that everyone and anyone could eat there.’

Victoria Beeson, City of Derby Academy commented

‘Really friendly and entertaining.  Pupils found the baptismal pool particularly interesting’.

Marie Turner, St Mary Magdalene CE Primary commented

‘The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Gurdwara. They found it extremely interesting and were able to recall information back at school. The food tasting workshop was very well organized’.

Rachel Abbott, Portway Junior commented

‘All children were fully engaged and loved the variety of activities.  The session was really well resourced and the activities encouraged lots of conversation about links between other religions.   The art they produced was beautiful and many wanted to continue with theirs after the session.  Thank you so much’.

‘The children really enjoyed having an expert explain the activities leading up to a Bar and Bat Mitzvah.  Having real life experiences and pictures captured their attention and encouraged lots of questions.  Having all children have the opportunity wear a kippah and Tallit.  We as staff found the session fascinating too! Thank you’.

Open Centre asked ‘Is there anything we can do differently’?

Adrea Goodwin, Duckmanton Primary commented

‘No – it was perfect!  Just wished we had more time but that is due to timetable constraints’.
