The ‘Our Heritage’ teaching resources are a vibrant series of cross-curriculum resources for all Key Stages designed to engage students with notions of ‘British values’ through case studies exploring faith, culture and the legacy of multiculturalism from the perspective of five families.
Made of up of 6 separate panels and incorporating a 23 inch touch screen monitor, the exhibition allows teachers and students alike to explore Derby’s multicultural heritage through a series of films, stories and images.
With over an hour of exclusive footage, the exhibition includes documentaries on the 5 featured families, and 12 archival news reports of multicultural Derbyshire in the 1970s and 1980s. The resource is suitable for all Key Stages and a variety of subjects, and helps to evidence the teaching of ‘British Values’ within your institution.
Hiring the ‘Our Heritage’ mobile exhibition for your school couldn’t be easier. The panels can be assembled individually or as a set, meaning the exhibition can be split across two classrooms, or alternatively set up in a hall or reception area for use in assemblies and group learning. Our staff will be on hand to deliver and install the exhibition on your chosen date to ensure that all goes smoothly with your hire and set up.
Purchasing an ‘Our Heritage’ online resources subscription will provide your school with online access to five documentaries featuring families from the Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Sikh and Jewish faiths discussing their heritage, in their own words. Also included are 12 unique news clips depicting the history of multiculturalism across Derbyshire, featuring stories as diverse as the ‘School Uniform’ pupil strikes in 1985, Sikh unrest in Normanton following the storming of Golden Temple, and West Indian immigrants choosing to return to their country of birth in the early 1980s. Downloadable worksheets are also included to help turn the five family films into discrete lessons and discussion.
